Bio
I live in Sydney in a decent sized apartment. This is unusual for me. In 2001 I started a Bachelor of Science in genetics and chemistry. Since then I've spent a year working as a kitchenhand, a year and a half as a pawnbroker and recently fled back to the sandstone walls of the University of Queensland to study medieval history. Said university promptly cancelled medieval history. I transferred to the University of Sydney, as of July 2007. It is much nicer here.

I sometimes wear a fedora.

Unlike (it seems) everyone else on the internet, I cannot draw, paint or sculpt and do not own a cat. I do write a little, and I like criticism.

Some required warnings: I am so liberal that I bleed green. Government is for helping people, which means that welfare is required and so is free or at least cheap healthcare. In my country, these things are pretty much a given. America should try it.

I am also an atheist, in the sense that I have utterly failed to be convinced by any of the spurious arguments that there is one or more Gods. As a result of (or as a factor leading to) this, I am a fan of Richard Dawkins and Douglas Adams: I don't see fairies at the bottom of the garden, but it's a beautiful garden anyway. This doesn't mean that I'm going to think you're stupid or small-minded for believing. I used to believe and many of my friends and people I respect do.

If you like what you see around these parts, or even if you don't, feel free to add me. I am guaranteed to at least read your journal, and will probably friend you in return. It seems the least I can do and most of you are pretty dang interesting anyway! Pretty much everything I say is open for all to read, but be warned that I do ramble a lot.

You can also find me on Flickr, but updates occur only when flying fish are jumping over the blue moon.

If it doesn't tick the boxes for the scientific method, then it's simply not science. If you start saying, "well, it doesn't do this, but that just makes it less science-y - it's still science, just not as 'hard'", then that opens the door for all the pseudoscientists and religious crackpots like homeopaths and creationists who want to get their personal hallucinations taught as public reality.
